Funny, we don't seem concerned if Israelis kill Americans, as on the USS Liberty or on the Gaza aid flotilla.
The Israel Lobby-controlled politicians and media omit the fact that it is Israel which is illegally occupying and persecuting the Palestinians in violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions. There is much attention given to the one captured occupation-soldier but no attention paid to the thousands of imprisoned occupation-opponents. If we were under occupation we'd resist too.
Everyone felt very sad for Shalit and his family, but exchanging 1000 criminals for 1 soldier seems foolish in the extreme. Those 1,000 will end up killing Israeli's, probably many more than 1... they will fight Israel with hatred... this gives Hamas great incentive to capture more Israeli soldiers, what a great deal for them! Deal with terrorists and you give them the upper hand.
The 1,000 to 1 ratio seems fitting............and the next time Israel has to do a smack-down in Gaza they should remind Hamas and the Palestinians that they need to kill 1,000 Palestinians for every Israeli slain by rocket or terrorist attack.
And don't release any of the remaining prisoners if even one of those previously released returns to a life of terrorism.
If any of the released do get picked up again for the same crimes then just arrange a date for them with 72 virgins.........save everybody the time and effort of putting them back in jail.
This is what the Arab understands.....brute force.......nothing else.
Shucks - The Israelis should have said that Gilad Shalit had pancreatitis............that way they could have gotten him back for nothin'..........just like the Libyans.
Obama knows which side his bread is buttered on. Although he initially opposed Israel鈥檚 illegal apartheid Jew-only settlement expansion on stolen Palestinian land, he later recanted and vetoed an anti-settlement UN resolution. Now he works feverishly at the UN to prevent a Palestinian State and gave a groveling UN speech. As blogger Xymphora writes, 鈥淲hen Obama gave his speech, he was naked on all fours, with a leather collar around his neck attached to a steel chain held by a Jew, eating dog food off the floor of the UN. Keep that image in mind.鈥
Obama's decision to support the release apparently is coming back to haunt the Obama administration, which is left with egg on its face, especially if any of the released criminals are shown to participate in future terrorist activities in the USA.
Obama is just naive and inexperienced in these kinds of things. He doesn't really know what to do, and usually just does what he's told by his handlers without considering all the ramifications and alternatives.
As another poster (Tom in Delaware) above illustrates, this release will provide a precedent that both sides agree that each Israeli is worth 1000 Palestinians.
